The steps necessary to achieve the GOSESO goals and objectives have been divided into three phases.
Phase I (Study and Partnership Building), which started
in 2005 and was completed a year later in June of 2006, consisted of:
A feasibility assessment based on feedback from potential stakeholders in Tanzania.
Partnership building with local people in Tanzania, including representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The selection of the Kitobe Forest as the site and headquarters for the school operations.
Phase II (School Without Walls), which started in 2006 and was completed in 2008, included the:
Design of our grass-roots curriculum, which harnesses the diverse talents and aspirations of youth to forge understanding, stability, and peace.
Creation of non-profit sister organizations in Tanzania and the United States.
Further development of the network of local and international stakeholders.
Acquisition of a 99-year renewable lease on approximately 500-acre Kitobe
Forest through democratic means with the local citizenry and the government
of Tanzania.
Phase III (School Within Walls), which started in Fall 2008 and is anticipated to be completed in 2011, consists of:
Development and construction of the first stage of an environmentally low-impact campus that will support 200 students. The first stage of construction includes seven classrooms, a cafeteria, a library, a computer lab, the Wildlife Education Center, and student housing.
Initiating and expanding the operation of GOSESO. We are currently recruiting gifted and committed students and faculty from within Tanzania and abroad.
It is anticipated that the first class, which will consist of up to 20 students and 4 faculty members, could begin in May 2009.
By 2011, it is projected that GOSESO will be able to accommodate up to 200 students and 15 faculty members, with half of the students residing on campus.
Continued implementation and refinement of research, conservation, and education as well as economic and agricultural outreach programs.
